What Does Peace Look Like?

I used to think Peace looked like a Beautiful scene in nature or my dream house or lots of money or an exotic vacation. But what I am learning is Peace is all about my state of Being. It’s about what’ on the INSIDE, not the outside.

Dr. Wayne Dyer says this about Peace…

“Make your first and primary priority in your life being in balance with the Source of Creation. Become thoughtful in your slow-down time. Being the Peace you desire means becoming a relaxed person whose balance doesn’t attract anxiety and stress symptoms. Extend the same slowed-down energy to all people…especially your family. Become conscious of your efforts to become the Peace you desire and to live in balance.”

Doesn’t this sound AMAZING? It sure does to me and I am going to strive to become this kind of person that is BALANCED and PEACEFUL. I believe Pursuing Peace is the very best thing I can do for myself to live a life filled with love and joy.

Art Therapy Project

I LOVE our art project this week…it’s time to get out of our journals just for a bit and create a canvas filled with Peaceful things…images, words and quotes. Anything that, just by looking at it we gain Peace. Of course if you want to put this in your journals then by all means do that. This is for YOU:). A canvas board will work PERFECTLY for this assignment, too!

Week Twenty: Procrastination & Peace

This week lets talk about PROCRASTINATION and how it AFFECTS our Peace…Here is the definition of procrastination….”the act or habit of procrastinating, or putting off or delaying, especially something requiring immediate attention.” 

Hmmmm….that sounds like me more times than not lately. I feel overwhelmed with so much going on and yet instead of getting things done I curl up on the couch not knowing what to tackle first.

After doing THAT for days and sometimes weeks my To Do list is soooooo LONG and my time so short I feel buried. Now THAT doesn’t do anything for my Peace of Mind!

It’s times when I feel like that I start living on Auto-Pilot, shut myself off from everything and everyone and just exist.

Week Nineteen: Protecting My Peace

We all want it so badly.

But how do we go about finding it?

I believe one of the best things we can do in seeking Peace is at first naming our Peace Saboteurs. Those things that disrupt our Peace and oftentimes ruin our day.

Some things that disrupt our Peace

Has anybody ever said to you “I know how to push your buttons!” while laughing? Or what about…”Ooooo that really got YOU going!!”

Back in my twenties it was so easy for someone to make me mad…especially by brother-in-laws. Oh my goodness could they ever push my buttons. I would get SO MAD at them I could feel my blood pressure rising! Looking back it makes me sad knowing I gave so much of my Peace away to their silly and incessant teasing.

Here is a list of the most common Peace Saboteurs…

*Drama and gossip

*family members

*our jobs/workplace/fellow employees

*social media

*the news/politics


*our health

*guilt from past mistakes/shame from the past

*distorted beliefs about our bodies/ourselves

Art Therapy Idea

In our pursuit of Peace it’s important to have reminders for ourselves to keep us on track and tell us everything is going to be ok!


This week we are going to create a deck of Peace Cards. You can use index cards, Project Life cards, playing cards or just plain card stock cut into smaller rectangles.

Peace. We all want some. We live in such a fast-paced world…always zipping from here to there. Checking our texts, our emails, our Facebook and Instagram. Working, cleaning, going, doing. How in the world do we find Peace in all this craziness?

It’s Week Seventeen of my year long free art journaling class I Say Yes. And it’s a brand new month…time for a NEW theme!! This month I have picked Pursuing Peace for several reasons…

Number One…I NEED Peace at the moment.

Number Two…YOU need Peace at the moment.


I am super excited to be on this Peace Journey with you this month and look forward to learning what brings YOU Peace. We will also dig deep this month as we learn, perhaps the most important lesson of all..that Peace is a FEELINg deep in our Souls. It’s not an action but rather a feeling. I love that and KNOW that when I add just a few new habits to my day Inner Peace will envelope me and keep me Moving Forward.

Our Assignment

This week’s assignment is pretty east…create a list of what brings you Peace. For me it’s pretty simple…

*time spent in my studio

*a cup of coffee in my gazebo

*driving around with my girl or my sweetie

*spending time with my fur babies

Week Seventeen: Let’s Go to the Movies



There is just something about movies…

I don’t know about you but I LOVE movies. All kinds of movies. Comedies, drama, romantic comedies, mystery, horror, adventure…and when I really, really like a movie I tend to watch it more than once.

For me, summer and movies just go hand in hand. Growing up my Dad was a huge fan of Big Box Office films…you know…Jaws, Star Wars, Terminator, etc. Dad hated spending money unless it was on the movies…then he would go all out. Popcorn, pop, candy, all kinds of treats…whatever we wanted! Going to the movies with my family is one of my favorite childhood memories!

This week’s prompt

As our month of Walking on Sunshine winds down I thought it would be fun to share our favorite films in our journals and in our Facebook group. You can even create a page filled with your most loved quotes and scenes from a movie. For me one of the BEST endings ever in a film is from the 1987 John Hughes movie…”Some Kind of Wonderful”.

Week 16: Smile


So Many Reasons

Here we are in Week 16 of my year long art journaling class “I Say Yes”. Thank you for being here and participating. What a GREAT group of strong, brave and Beautiful women we have!! If you don’t know what “I Say Yes” I encourage you to start here. We would LOVE to have you!!

The entire month of June we have sorta taken time off from the “deep thinking”. The themes and prompts that make us really dig deep and maybe face some hard stuff in our lives. It is summer after all AND we have ALL been working so HARD at Healing and Sharing!!! I am proud of you!

This week we are talking about SMILES. Whether they are Big or Little, Real or Fake, smiling TRULY can help you have a better day!

Week 15: Let’s Have FUN!



Last week we talked about our Summer Bucket List of FUN things we want to do before shorter days and colder nights take over. I wrote down 5 things I am looking forward to doing over the next 10 weeks but quickly realized I am gonna need way more than just five days of fun sprinkled here and there. I need to figure out a way I can incorporate enjoyable activities into my DAILY life, too.

Trust me. I realize we are ALL busy gals. Many of us work forty plus hours a week as well as take care of children and our home. Yet, there has to be a way for us to find SOME time just for us and LAUGH.

Be Silly.

What’s on YOUR Summer Bucket List?

Oh the JOYS of Summer! Long, warm days and Beautiful, Starry Nights. Summer is truly one of my favorite times of the year. Life, somehow, just seems more carefree and relaxing.

 What is a Summer Bucket List?

Ever since I can remember I have been a list maker and summer is no exception. In fact every Summer since Jr. High School I have created my own Summer Bucket List. All the stuff I want to do/have more of during three of the sweetest months of the year.

This summer will be a bit more hectic than usual in my little part of the world as my husband and I just took our Shaved Ice business from a food truck to a brick and mortar building! It’s a VERY exciting time in life but also VERY busy!! My Summer Bucket List is even that more important to me as I will NEED some down time.

So what should you be putting on YOUR List you ask? ANYTHING fun, relaxing, exciting, special that YOU want to do before the craziness of Fall and school and activities start up again in September.

Here’s what on MY List…

  1. 80’s Movie Night with Em (my 21 yr. old daughter). Watch all our faves including Meatballs and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Make a delicious gluten-free pizza and popcorn and get cozy in our jammies and blankets.
  2. Mom, Em and I head to Hamilton, Mo. for a full day of shopping, eating and COFFEE!!
  3. Art Day with my friends at my house.
  4. Weston with Mom and Em. Show her the Pub.
  5. Dave (my husband) and I get away for a few days…just us. NO phones. NO business Talk…just relaxation and Good Times!
