Week 29: Planning Your Days

There is a Better Way

We all wish for more time…more time to get things done…more time to enjoy our loved ones…more time spent creating. What if I told you that there IS a way? There is! And while it may be something you already do my hope is this week will shed a new light on your planning and give you more strategies to plan your days.

I just love this quote by Annie Dillard…

A schedule defends from chaos and whim. It is a net for catching days. It is a scaffolding on which a worker can stand and labor with both hands at sections of time.

I started keeping a planner back in my early working days with one of those At-a-glance planners from Wal-Mart. By the time my kids were in middle school and in every sport/after school activity imaginable I upgraded to an official Stephen Covey Day Timer. I LOVED IT!!! Then a few years ago when Me and My Big Ideas came out with their Happy Planner I KNEW I had to have one!!!

Regardless of what I use for keeping track of my To-Do lists, who to call, where I need to be, etc…there is no doubt that having a plan not only gives me more time to do the things I love but keeps me sane!!

Here is my current planner…a simple one from Wal-Mart…

Week 28: Time for Self-Care

Where Can Our Time Be Better Spent?

Last week we talked about Time Wasters. I believe the biggest time waster in America today is Social Media. How many times do you turn to your phone to check on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter? Or what about games like Candy Crush or Farmville? After last week I realized the ONLY time I play Candy Crush is when I am avoiding something. WOW!

I KNOW there is a better way to spend my time…after all time is so precious!

back

Our Assignment

This week let’s PROMISE ourselves we will start taking back our Precious Time! We will stop wasting our lives scrolling through Facebook, playing phone games and other things that contribute to us living on Auto-Pilot!!!

We will start out slowly…I understand that no matter how bad the habit…it can be so hard to break them all at once! Soooo…this week let’s take 20 to 30 minutes AWAY from our Time wasters and ADD 20 to 30 minutes to our Self Care. When you find yourself needing a mental break and turning to your phone instead why not try…

*writing in your journal

*make a Top Ten list of what’s good in your life

*go outside

*Take a walk

*create a background in your journal

Week 27: What’s Your Routine?

I don’t know about you but I am so READY for a FRESH New Beginning! Fall is my absolute FAVORITE time of year and I want to be sure and not miss one Beautiful thing about it! I have known for several months I NEED to get back to my Morning Routine, setting goals and enjoying some ME time. But sadly I have let the stresses in my life overtake my time and instead of filling my Soul up I have been living on Auto-Pilot.

Well NO MORE!

That’s why for the next four months I am engaging in “I Say Yes Bootcamp”.

If you haven’t heard of my year long FREE art journaling class “I Say Yes” be sure and read all about that here.

I invite you to join our Bootcamp even if you haven’t done one of the previous 26 lessons!! The next four months we will be covering topics to help us kick our lives up a notch and who doesn’t need that?!

Bootcamp Topics

We will be covering the following subjects over the next four months…

*Creativity

*Journaling

*Aging

*And this month’s theme…Time Management

Each month I will announce a new theme and every week a new prompt. Are you ready to begin?

Week 27 Prompt

Let’s make a fresh start this month by taking a look at our time wasters. What are they? For me it’s anything that totally sucks me away from the task at hand. I can be so focused on blog writing or creating in my journal and go on-line to check something out “real quick”…before I know it 20 minutes have passed and I am still scrolling through Facebook or reading People on-line! It not only drives me crazy but drains my energy.

My Time Wasters list looks like this…

*Facebook, on-line quizzes, on-line gossip magazines

*TV

*Candy Crush on my phone

When I really stop to think about I know I waste an INSANE about of time on-line! I KNOW once I get that under control I will become so much more productive!

The second thing we are going to work on this week is our Daily Routine. Remember our first week of class and how we talked about living on Auto Pilot? When I don’t take the time to establish a Daily Routine my life goes off track and I start living on Auto-Pilot again. It’s a place I don’t want to be.

Living on Auto-Pilot means I am not taking care of myself. It means I am sitting on the couch, eating and mindlessly watching TV. It means depression sets in and I begin to feel bad about myself and everything around me.

It’s not living.

Girls, I want us to LIVE.

I want us to THRIVE.

To find JOY in everything!

What is a Daily Routine?

When we have a Daily Routine we have a sense of ownership of our Time, our life…even if it feels like we are falling apart. Somehow the very act of DOING has energy in it that helps us be more Joy-Full.

*I want you to think back to your Auto-Pilot Days (and maybe that is today or maybe it was months ago)…then think back to a day when you had taken the time to make a list, set some goals…have a routine. How did each of those times make you feel? Do you see, feel the difference?

A Daily Routine can look like many different things! When I am running on all cylinders and at my best this is what MY Daily Routine looks like…

*Up early, coffee and time with God, create a To-Do List

*Walk, stretch, move my body

*Shower/get ready for the day

*Back in studio to check SM, emails, write, create

*Work or clean house or run errands

It looks pretty simple right? It is and it makes a HUGE difference in my days, my week and my mental health is always so much BETTER! Sadly I haven’t done this morning routine in FOREVER and let me tell you…I KNOW it. I haven’t been very productive at all and I am not filling myself up!!!

Our Assignment

*Take a look at your week. Fill in ALL the MUSTS…work, school stuff, kids practices, church, clubs, etc. Then fill in calendar with stuff you TRULY want to do…workouts, creative time, writing time, Social Media time, anything that YOU want to do during your week…the stuff that FILLS your Soul UP!

*Let’s come up with a Morning Routine or an Evening Routine…you decide where it best fits into your schedule. Write down those things that are REALLY important to you and decide the most important ones. If you want a morning routine are you going to have to wake up a bit earlier? Maybe your Daily Routine fits better in the middle of the day. Remember you get to decide what’s best for YOU!

*Start implementing your Daily Routine this week!

*Share in our private Facebook group how it’s going.

Your Art Journal

For your art journal you can either put your Daily Routine or Time Wasters on your page or you can create something that you are inspired to do by working on your routine. My page is going to be all about how precious my time is and how I want to stop once and for wasting it!

Week 26: Be the True You

image_pdfimage_print

This week’s lesson is all about creating a page to celebrate who we REALLY are. I mean I want you to go over the top with your page!

Do you see yourself as a Warrior, a Teacher, a Comedian? What’s really deep inside of YOU?

brene

It’s so easy to just be who we THINK we should be…especially when we are around others. Have you ever been in a situation where you are surrounded by new people and instead of being yourself you act differently? I know I have been many, many times. I hate it when that happens because I KNOW it’s MY OWN insecurities coming out.

What if we could be EXACTLY who we are?? That’s the person I want you to create in your journal this week!!

Week 25: Where Have We Been?

maya

So glad you are HERE!

Welcome to Week 25 of my FREE year long art journaling class…”I Say Yes”. If you are just joining me I invite you to read this so you know what this class is all about. You can find ALL 24 lessons here.

We have been talking about living an authentic life. What exactly IS an authentic life?

I like this explanation by Dianne Mottl…

“Being authentic means coming from a real place within. It is when our actions and words are congruent with our beliefs and values. It is being ourselves, not an imitation of what we think we should be or have been told we should be. There is no “should” in authentic.”

Our lesson this week

I am LOVING our lesson this week..we are talking about several things…

  1. Who are you?
  2. Where have you come from in life?
  3. What parts of yourself and all that you have achieved feel the best?
  4. Out of your achievements which ones would you choose over and over again?

I believe each of us have achieved GREAT and mighty things. However I also believe that out of those things not every single one of them fully resonated with our Heart’s Desire. One of my examples would be I KNOW I am a pretty good business woman. I have helped my husband for nearly 28 years with our business’s and for the most part enjoy it. However business doesn’t make my Heart beat faster…or my tummy fill up with butterflies. It’s my achievements with my ART and my TEACHING that give me TRUE JOY and LIGHT ME UP! My work with the Wounded Warriors Foundation, young children and the women in my on-line groups that fill me up and keep me going!

Create!

I invite you to create a road of your life this week in your journal. Where you have been and where you are going. Try to be your very best Authentic Self when thinking about where you want to go…Think BIG! Think ALMOST OUT OF REACH! Think PIE IN THE SKY!

Week 21: Creating a Peace Collage

image_pdfimage_print

“When you’re at peace with yourself and love your self, it is virtually impossible to do things to yourself that are destructive.” – Wayne Dyer

What Does Peace Look Like?

I used to think Peace looked like a Beautiful scene in nature or my dream house or lots of money or an exotic vacation. But what I am learning is Peace is all about my state of Being. It’s about what’ on the INSIDE, not the outside.

Dr. Wayne Dyer says this about Peace…

“Make your first and primary priority in your life being in balance with the Source of Creation. Become thoughtful in your slow-down time. Being the Peace you desire means becoming a relaxed person whose balance doesn’t attract anxiety and stress symptoms. Extend the same slowed-down energy to all people…especially your family. Become conscious of your efforts to become the Peace you desire and to live in balance.”

Doesn’t this sound AMAZING? It sure does to me and I am going to strive to become this kind of person that is BALANCED and PEACEFUL. I believe Pursuing Peace is the very best thing I can do for myself to live a life filled with love and joy.

Art Therapy Project

I LOVE our art project this week…it’s time to get out of our journals just for a bit and create a canvas filled with Peaceful things…images, words and quotes. Anything that, just by looking at it we gain Peace. Of course if you want to put this in your journals then by all means do that. This is for YOU:). A canvas board will work PERFECTLY for this assignment, too!

Enjoy this two page PDF of Peaceful words and phrases for your collage!

Week Twenty: Procrastination & Peace

image_pdfimage_print

forsure

I LOVE this quote! And deep down I KNOW it’s sooo true and yet I waste so much time procrastinating!

Welcome to Week Twenty of “I Say Yes”!

It’s Week 20 of my FREE year long art journaling class. Haven’t heard of it? I invite you to go here and join us! You can find the first 19 weeks here.

This week lets talk about PROCRASTINATION and how it AFFECTS our Peace…Here is the definition of procrastination….”the act or habit of procrastinating, or putting off or delaying, especially something requiring immediate attention.”

Hmmmm….that sounds like me more times than not lately. I feel overwhelmed with so much going on and yet instead of getting things done I curl up on the couch not knowing what to tackle first.

After doing THAT for days and sometimes weeks my To Do list is soooooo LONG and my time so short I feel buried. Now THAT doesn’t do anything for my Peace of Mind!

It’s times when I feel like that I start living on Auto-Pilot, shut myself off from everything and everyone and just exist.

LIVE.

Week Nineteen: Protecting My Peace

image_pdfimage_print

“Learning to distance yourself from all the negativity is one of the greatest lessons to achieve inner peace.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

Peace.

We all want it so badly.

But how do we go about finding it?

I believe one of the best things we can do in seeking Peace is at first naming our Peace Saboteurs. Those things that disrupt our Peace and oftentimes ruin our day.

Some things that disrupt our Peace

Has anybody ever said to you “I know how to push your buttons!” while laughing? Or what about…”Ooooo that really got YOU going!!”

Back in my twenties it was so easy for someone to make me mad…especially by brother-in-laws. Oh my goodness could they ever push my buttons. I would get SO MAD at them I could feel my blood pressure rising! Looking back it makes me sad knowing I gave so much of my Peace away to their silly and incessant teasing.

Here is a list of the most common Peace Saboteurs…

*Drama and gossip

*family members

*our jobs/workplace/fellow employees

*social media

*the news/politics

*traffic

*our health

*guilt from past mistakes/shame from the past

*distorted beliefs about our bodies/ourselves

Art Therapy Idea

In our pursuit of Peace it’s important to have reminders for ourselves to keep us on track and tell us everything is going to be ok!

“Peace is the number one beautiful ornament you can wear, I really believe that. They say you should always wear a smile, but I don’t believe that you should “always” wear a smile, seriously, you’re going to look stupid! But peace, you should always carry peace within you, its the most beautifying thing you could ever have or do. Peace makes your heart beautiful and it makes you look beautiful, too. You want to have perfect physical posture when you stand, sit, and walk, and peace is the perfect posture of the soul, really. Try perfect posture outside as well as inside. Peace creates grace and grace gives peace.”
